During the summer there are opportunities to play at all levels. There is a weekly roll-up evening every Thursday
starting at 6:30pm. This includes coaching sessions, practise and friendly games.
Any lady is welcome to come along and try out bowls. They can sign up for six sessions and only pay £1 per session.
If they then want to join £6 will be deducted from their annual membership fee of £35. Bowls can be provided but flat
soled shoes must be worn. For anyone taking up bowls there is an initial outlay for woods (bowls) and clothing. These
items bought new can cost in total approximately £150 but good second hand equipment is often available.
|
|
For members there are regular friendly and league games against other local clubs and there is the opportunity to
enter club and county competitions for a small fee. Our two ladies league teams compete in the Wiltshire North West League
and the friendly games can be held in the afternoons, the evenings or at weekends. We also have weekend mixed friendly
and league games where we join with the two Mens Bowls Clubs based at Spencers. Games are played on a home or away basis
(these can be local or further afield to Swindon, Malmsbury, Bath etc).

Bowls is often seen as a pastime for the more mature but all ages are welcome and younger members find that they are
involved in a sport that is challenging, competitive and fun and the opportunities are there to take as much
or as little as one likes from the game.
What you will find in the bowls section at Spencer Sports & Social Club is a very sociable, lively group of all ages
from 11 to 85 and of all abilities, from County players and those who have had International trials to those who just
play for the pleasure of being in the open air and getting some exercise.
